What is culture?

If you say you are American that is your nationality.

Myths, traditons and cutoms get passed on from one generation to the next.

Family members who lived a long time ago are your ancestors (preci).

Your culture is a part of who you are.

In Croatia we have special instruments with which we play traditional music.

Traditional dress (narodna nošnja) are clothing items which people traditionally wear in a certain culture.

Some cultures, like the Native Americans, have a special bond with nature.

Many cultures, such as the Native Americans, organise themselves into communities known as tribes.

New York is a multicultural city because poeple from all kinds of cultures live there.

You can go look at really old items which were once used by people in a museum.

If people of different nationalities, religions and races all live together in one town that town is multicultural.

The culture we inherit from our ancestors is our heritage (baština).

Myths are old stories that can be about gods, kings or heroes.

People who were born somwhere are native to that place.

Being tolerant means you respect (poštuješ) people different from you.

The language people speak is big part of their identity, be it English, Croatian, Swahili or Mandarin.

It is good to be proud of one's culture.

We promote equality (jednakost) between men and women.

People who study human history are called historians (povjesničari).

All cultures have specific monuments (spomenike) which belong to them, for example the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
